The extraordinary historical group "Abatellis Branciforti counts of Cammarata"

Today we are talking about an extraordinary group of people (Cammaratesi and San Giovannesi)

who, driven by a strong passion, have joined together to form this group and are participating and organizing more and more parades now throughout Sicily, bringing to light with their clothes, culture and fervor the great past of our territory.

The territory of Cammarata (Ag), between the 15th and 17th centuries, was dominated first by the Abatellis or Patella family and then by the Branciforti or Branciforte family.

The two families, in fact, united thanks to the marriage of Margherita Abatellis with Blasco Branciforti on 4 July 1536.

The Abatellis had become lords of Cammarata on 11 September 1431, when William Raimondo IV Moncada sold it to Giovanni Abatellis. While the Branciforti dominated Cammarata until 7 January 1680, the death of Gaetana Maria Branciforti, who was succeeded by her eldest son, Luigi Guglielmo Raimondo Moncada and Aragona.

Despite being a County, the lords of Cammarata have always been named Princes, as they are inhabitants of the Castle.
