The Cammarata ride

A great tradition rooted in time

The horse ride

It is a characteristic manifestation of some festivals that take place in Cammarata. The oldest is the cavalcade of the SS. Crucifix of the Angels, which is celebrated on the last Sunday of May. On this occasion, horses and riders parade between two wings of cheering crowds through the streets of the town. It starts from the house of the "Paliante", that is the one who for a grace received has asked to bring the Palio, and who will therefore have the place of honor during the parade of horses through the streets of the town. The ride  it ends in the evening in the square, where, to the sound of the musical band, all the knights and finally the Paliante and their families will each donate their offer.

Other rides in addition to that of the Holy Crucifix take place for the feast of San Giovanni Bosco, for the feast of the Madonna di Cacciapensieri and for the feast of the Immaculate Conception in Borgo Callea.

Nazarene Jesus Church

The big date of the year

Gesù Nazarè

Historical and famous in the surrounding villages is the  Feast of Jesus Nazarene, held on the second Sunday of June and which unites hundreds of faithful around the symbol of the feast itself, the Triumphal Chariot, which descends, drawn (symbolically) by oxen, along C.so Francesco Crispi on Saturday evening, and then go up again on Sunday. The hundreds of colored flags accompany the Cart, in a very suggestive "walk". On the other hand, the Statue of Jesus Nazarene comes out very rarely: the last time was in 2011, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Coronation of the Holy Crucifix.

  • MARCH:  Feast of San Giuseppe: Tables of the Vicchiareddi - Procession of the Saint through the streets of the town.
     

  • APRIL:  Holy Week and Easter. The processions of Good Friday and the Easter meeting with the Risen Christ in the pine forest are evocative.
     

  • MAY:  1st Sunday Characteristic procession of the SS. Crucifix by Tuvagli.

  • Last Sunday: Feast of the Holy Crucifix of the Angels with Procession and Cavalcade.

  • Ascension: Religious festival and agricultural fair in the hamlet of Borgo Callea.
     

  • JUNE:  Corpus Christi. Procession from the church of San Vito to the Matrix with the participation of all the Confraternities and Authorities.
     

  • JULY :  1st Sunday Procession of San Calogero with distribution of the blessed bread.
     

  • AUGUST :  From 14 to 15 feast of the Madonna di Cacciapensieri

  • From 16 to 18 Feast of San Giuseppe.
     

  • SEPTEMBER : First Sunday: Feast of the Santissimo Crociffisso della Pioggia.

  • 3rd Sunday: Feast of San Giovanni Bosco Procession and Cavalcade.
     

  • OCTOBER:  2nd Sunday Feast of the Madonna dei Miracoli with the fair that also takes place in San Giovanni Gemini.
     

  • DECEMBER:  6 San Nicolò di Bari - Patron saint of Cammarata. Liturgical celebration and procession with the participation of the authorities.

  • 8 Immaculate Conception. Morning Ninnaredda and Procession.
     

  • CHRISTMAS:  Living Nativity Scene in the San Vito district. Novenas through the streets of the two countries
