Most vintage photos  circulating on Cammarata  I am by Salvatore Trajna, a photographer from Cammarate who was born in 1891 and lived 89 years  and has given us a wealth of great value. 
He had a very special personal story: he was deaf and dumb from birth,  his family was large, with twelve children, but she was a wealthier than Cammarata, owner of the large building in which today is the seat of the Municipality of Cammarata, and supported him in his study, allowing him to study in Palermo at the Institute  for deaf mutes where he learned to communicate.
In the early 1900s he trained as a photographer and therefore I find a very effective means of communicating. Returning to Cammarata began  to photograph for pleasure and continued to study also through specialized magazines of the time, which was specially brought from Milan. In 1916, however, his hobby had to become a real profession because he was almost forced by the military authorities as he was the only one in Cammarata who could take photographs for the new identity cards: in this way Cammarata had "an almost complete visual mapping of the population of Cammarata and San Giovanni Gemini in the first half of the twentieth century.  Rare and extraordinary from a historical / anthropological point of view "  (1). Thanks to him there are dozens of  landscapes now disappeared, of monuments no longer existing, of the Turibolo stream, which crosses our territory dividing the villages of Cammarata and San Giovanni Gemini, still visible before being intubated in the seventies, of the livestock fairs that took place every first Sunday of the month, of the patronal feasts, of the departure of Cammarate soldiers for the Great War.
Of hundreds  of his photographs remain the plates, partly kept at the  Arezzo Photography Museum; appreciating this heritage very much, we hope that in the future it will be possible to set up a museum in Cammarata where it can be exhibited in an organic way. However, a large permanent exhibition is set up at the Tower of the Castle, which deserves to be visited.
